Urine has a certain, distinct odor that is easily recognizable by the human brain. The scent of the urine depends on a number of factors but mostly on the chemicals that comprise it. Different people will have different habits and food intake so that their urine scents vary. Still, the urine smell can range from a bit sweet to foul.

  • This bad odor may also be caused by sexually transmitted disorders.
  • Other ailments such as
    • Type 2 diabetes (Uncontrolled diabetes).
    • Cystitis
    • Acute liver failure.

Identify Symptoms of Smelly Urine

The following are some of the symptoms that patients with foul urine odor might also present:

  • Urine that smells strongly of ammonia.
  • Painful urination – this is often the case when the patient has infections along the genito-urinary tract.
