Symptoms of Tooth Cavity and Its Pain Relief Treatment Remedies

The mouth, tooth, and even the toothbrushes can be filled with bacteria. These microorganisms can settle in the crevices of the teeth, saliva, food debris, and plaque. Each individual tooth is well-equipped in terms of protection. The outer lining, known as enamel, is the strongest mineral in the body. It is also capable of mineralizing the affected tooth once more with the use minerals present in the saliva. If the rate of acid exposure exceeds the normal rate of reparation, tooth ailments such as cavities may occur. During the first stages, no pain may be felt.

With frequent exposures, the damage becomes obvious and the tooth becomes more sensitivity. A hole forms through the enamel, and affects the dentin and the pulp, which are underlying layers of the tooth. Since the pulp is deeply innervated, this occurrence can bring extreme pain and damage.

Tooth cavity symptoms often depend on the location and extent of damage. Commonly reported symptoms include:

  • Toothache
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Pain upon consuming hot or cold liquids
  • Visible pits or holes
  • Pain upon chewing
  • Presence of pus or abscess

Tooth Cavity Pain Relief Remedies

For those who cannot seek immediate dental treatment, the following home remedies may be done to relieve pain associated with cavities:

  • Tea bags. Apply a dry black teabag on the inside of the cheek, beside the aching tooth. If possible, keep it in place overnight.
  • Clove oil. Around 2-4 drops of clove oil in a ΒΌ cup of water can be used as mouthwash. This has both an anesthetic and antibacterial effect.
  • Gum poultice. Combine half part of baking soda and half part salt. Soak a cotton ball into the mixture and put it inside the mouth, near the affected tooth.
  • Use salt solution as a mouthwash for 10 minutes.

Tooth Cavity Treatment

The most obvious remedy is good oral hygiene.

Brushing after every meal may not be enough. This must be followed by gargling and flossing. Flossing is capable of reaching at least 35% of the oral surface, which brushing cannot encompass. There are other forms of preventive measures and treatments available. These include:

  • Avoidance of excess sugars and carbohydrates. Sweets are favorite energy sources of bacteria. Sticky substances such as caramel and peanut butter favor the growth and multiplication of bacteria. These are not ordinarily cleared by swallowing or chewing.
  • Fluoride. This is a staple ingredient in all toothpastes. Adequate amounts are also found in drinking water.
